Search Engine Optimization For Publicity Results

SEO is the practice of determining how you optimize HTML tags, headlines, content and links to a website so that your site gets top search returns in Google, Yahoo and other search engines. SEO is a valuable tool for publicity. By using keywords (a.k.a. keyword tagging) related to a topic in the right places in the documents you produce – web pages, blogs, online newsroom, press releases – you’ll have higher visibility because all those things can be indexed by a search engine and ranked.

However, keyword tagging isn’t as straightforward as it appears. Not only do you need to include these terms in your RSS content, you must prioritize them in your text without diminishing the context and quality of your news. The insertion of keywords in content just for the sake of search ranking (a.k.a. “keyword stuffing”) – is an SEO “no-no” and is the equivalent of PR over-spin.

Link building with new editorial content, which is heavily-weighted on Google, is also important for high SEO. Link building is inbound or one-way links from other sites to your site:

  • The editorial content in RSS feeds create links
  • Create links to your site from other high quality websites. There are tools available to help you do this: http://www.wordtracker.com/linkbuilder)
  • Add them to your website to increase the optimized content you have on the site.
