Christmas Needs PR
Errr…ummm…or should I say “Happy Holiday’s” so I don’t offend anyone.
With the Christmas season upon us, Scott and I have been reflecting on how much the story of Christmas has changed. Christmas has gone from being about Jesus Christ and His birthday – the only meaning of Christmas – to Consumerism – a sad counterfeit. I don’t mean to be “bah humbug”, but it seems to me that Christmas needs PR, not more ads, deals, presents, latest greatest toys, sales, meal planning, holiday decorating extortion but new PR, so people understand what they’re celebrating.
Sure, you may hear of an occasional feel-good story this time of year: people giving to charitable causes, helping those in need, preferring someone ahead of you in a long line at a check-out, and all of these acts of service contribute to “good will”, in truth, they even reflect parts of the Christmas story, but not the story in its entirety.
Christmas is about Jesus Christ born of a Virgin Mary. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son…”John 3:16. Period. End of story. No matter your belief system, that’s what Christmas is. That’s why we celebrate it.
That message may be hard to find through all the one day sales, holiday parties, last minute gift buying, present wrapping, baking, company coming, and house cleaning “stuff”. But that’s the message we need to hear, know, reflect and live – each and every day.
We wish you a Merry Christmas from Fresh Impact PR Group!
