The Holy Grail of Publicity – Getting on a National TV Show during the Holidays

Publicity ImageProducers at top major morning shows are always looking for topical evergreen story idea’s they know their viewers are looking to capitalize on approaching the holidays.  Black Friday deals, Holiday savings, Making the Holiday’s less stressful, Spending less….you get the picture.

Believe it or not, many times producers can get in a jam during the holidays.  Guest’s can’t make it, weather issues or mix-ups.  I have had moments of getting national play multiple times knowing there are evergreen stories producers cover.  You have to tie your topic or area of expertise into a trending story.  We did that here with a client on Black Friday which did well for our client and their book –book publicity in it’s truest form.

This book publicity didn’t come from sitting around waiting for the shows to call.  We actually had been talking to this producer on CNBC for almost 3 months.  We stayed before him, didn’t push but did our job.  We respected the relationship more than landing an interview.  At the right time, we got the call…the hard work paid off.
